Why Alabama: "I felt like it was the right place for me. I love the environment and the coaching staff. They had everything I wanted in a college. I wanted to go to a school that is going to compete yearly for national championships. Alabama is going to do that. The environment in Tuscaloosa is great. The coaching staff is the best in the country."

Strengths/Improvement: "I want to get bigger, stronger, faster and make better decisions. Here are really only certain things you can work on. Scrambling is going to come to you. The main thing is making better reads and improve my touchdown-interception ratio. That is what you work on every off season."

Coach Quotes (Head Coach Richard Morgan): "Alabama's getting the total package. Phillip's got the best arm I've ever seen. He's got the best understanding of the game I've ever seen. His mental awareness and pocket presence are second to none. He helps his linemen out with his ability to move around, which you have to be able to do these days in order to be successful with defenses being so fast.

"Phillip's been a starter for us since he was a 14-year old freshman. He's got a lively arm. He's reached the point now that whatever call he makes on any play is usually the right one every single time. He's been playing at a different level.

"The game is going to be quicker at the college level and that's an adjustment he'll have to make. Phillip will need to be patient and let the defense happen. He's a great athlete (4.8 speed in the 40, plus a stand-out on the basketball court) and can make things happen out of the pocket. Another adjustment he'll need to make, but is taking snaps under center, we primarily use the shotgun formation.

"Phillip took an unofficial visit to Alabama and fell in love with it. He felt there was no reason to prolong his recruitment after that because that's where he wanted to be. Phillip wants to play in the SEC, compete for National titles, and be in a pro-style offense.

"Although Alabama has some good quarterbacks in their depth chart, he believes he can compete with those guys and earn early playing time. With Alabama, it seems like a natural fit with Phillip.

"He gets along great with his teachers, never gets into any trouble, comes from a good family. Phillip's quiet, enjoys going to the mall, playing video games, going to the movies, and he lives football.

"Phillip's impact in this community is deeply felt. He's going to be sorely missed."

Andrew Bone says: "Sims is the most decorated quarterback recruit head coach Nick Saban has brought in since his arrival at Alabama. He will compete for the second string role in the spring. He has a very strong arm with accuracy. He has great pocket presense and doesn't make a lot of mistakes."
