Why Alabama: "Alabama is amazing. Alabama has so much going for themselves. It was a great experience. Nick Saban speaking to me and how him and his wife treated me and my mother on the visit. I have never seen my mom so happy, not in a long, long time. That made me happy to make her happy. They were real people over there. Everyone expects Alabama to be stuck up or something, but they are loving and caring and they were there for my mother and treated her like family. They have a great program, and I am excited to be a part of it."
Strengths/Improvements: "I am a strong and very physical corner. Coaches have said I have very good size and hips. They really like the fact I am very good in man coverage."
Coach Quotes (Head Coach Glen Davis): "Dequan has played great for us as a two year starter. He shows tremendous athleticism on the field with a 40-inch vertical leap. He moves fast, and has a good body to play defensive back at 5-11, 195.
"He really should have been first team All-American. He's ranked ahead of the player who got it in the state, so that didn't make sense to me. He deserved to get it. I have a player's committee which the players vote on. This year, Dequan received the most votes, so he's who is well-respected by his peers.
"He's not the kind of person who's going to embarrass you with off-the-field issues. His mama's done a good job raising him. He's a good, class guy who's quiet and doesn't do a whole lot of talking and has demonstrated quality leadership in a lead-by-example role for this team.
"He's just an excellent athlete who will create match-up problems for whoever he's facing. He's been a player we could count on the past two seasons to cover the other team's best receiver. He's got exceptional ball skills and really makes it difficult on the opposing receiver to make a play."
Andrew Bone says: "Menzie is a physical defensive back who could challenge for playing time immediately in Tuscaloosa. He has very good pass coverage skills and is physical at coming up against the run. He is quick and has good hands."
Richard Stover contributed to this report.
"He's just an excellent athlete."
