Alabama Gymnasts Go To Kentucky
Alabama Coach Sarah Patterson said, "Kentucky has a very good team and they always give us a good meet. There are no off nights in the SEC. We're going to have to out there and hit our routines if we expect to come away with a win."
SEC schools make up half of the nation's top 12 this week, with only Auburn, at No. 16, falling outside that group. Alabama has been ranked first or second for each of the last five weeks and Kentucky has been at No. 12 for a majority of the season.
Alabama and Kentucky both stepped outside the conference last week and both came away with wins. Alabama downed Arizona with a 197.25, its third score of 197-plus this season while Kentucky beat Ohio State with a season-best 195.850.
Kentucky has used 11 gymnasts in its lineup this season with only one, Andrea Mitchell, going all-around. Alabama has also used 11 gymnasts in its competitive lineup this season, but in contrast to the Wildcats, five have competed in the all-around with four scoring 39.4 or better.
"One of the things we're working on is creating more depth," Patterson said. "That's something we'll work toward over these last few dual meets."
Friday marks the Tide's last conference meet of the season. After this weekend, Alabama has just two dual meets left, at No. 1 Oklahoma on March 5 and at home on March 19 against Michigan on UA's Senior Night.
Tickets for the UA-Michigan meet are on sale at the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum, or online at RollTide.com.
