Alonzo Gee Called Up To NBA

Washington, D.C. – Former University of Alabama men's basketball standout Alonzo Gee has been signed to a 10-day NBA contract by the Washington Wizards, the team announced Sunday. Gee will join the team and was to be available for Sunday evening's game at Boston.

Alonzo Gee has spent the season with the NBA Developmental League's Austin Toros and was voted a D-League All-Star earlier in the season. The 6-6, 220-pound forward appeared in and started 35 games for the Toros and averaged 21.0 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

A four-year contributor for the Alabama Crimson Tide who received his diploma in December 2008, Gee averaged 15.0 points and 7.2 rebounds during his senior season en route to second team all-SEC honors in 2009.

Gee becomes the 25th Alabama product to appear on an NBA regular-season roster and the third to play for the Washington Wizards franchise, joining Buck Johnson (1992-93) and Ennis Whatley (1985-87).

Alabama now has four active NBA players with Gee joining 2010 NBA All-Star Gerald Wallace (Charlotte), 2009 NBA All-Star Mo Williams (Cleveland) and 2001 NBA All-Star Antonio McDyess (San Antonio).
