Torrance To Play In Portsmouth

Mikhail Torrance, a senior on the 2009-10 Alabama men's basketball team, is set to participate in this weekend's Portsmouth Invitational Tournament in Portsmouth, Va. The tournament, in its 58th year, is one of the top professional showcases in the nation featuring 64 seniors from various NCAA programs and scouts from every NBA franchise and numerous professional leagues.

Mikhail Torrance was the top player for Coach Anthony Grant's first Alabama basketball team last season, earning second team All-Southeastern Conference.

Torrance averaged 15.6 points for the Crimson Tide last season, shooting 47 per cent from the field with 5.1 assists per game. He finished his four-year career with 940 points and was the program's second most accurate free-throw shooter, converting on 86.2 per cent of his career attempts.

Play in the tournament begins today with games scheduled Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Torrance, a 6-5, 210-pound guard from Eight Mile, will compete as a member of the Portsmouth Partnership squad and is the only point guard on the eight-man roster.
