Dugas Invited To USA Baseball Tryout

Alabama sophomore center fielder Taylor Dugas has been invited to the 2010 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Trials to try out for Team USA.

The Lafayette, La., native is one of 23 college players invited to audition for the team July 5-11 at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C.

The team will play its annual Red-Blue series at the National Training Complex before making its final cuts. The final 22-man team will be selected on July 11. The roster will consist primarily of non draft-eligible college players.

"This is a great honor for Taylor Dugas and the University of Alabama," Crimson Tide Coach Mitch Gaspard said. "He's a guy we're excited about representing our university and our baseball program. Not only is he a tremendous player, but the way he handles himself on and off the field makes us really excited that he's representing Alabama."

Team USA will play a series of games in the United States before leaving for Tokyo, Japan, where it will compete in the FISU World University Championships in August.

Dugas is one of six current SEC players invited to Team USA Trails, joining Jackie Bradley, Jr. (OF, South Carolina), Sonny Gray (RHP, Vanderbilt), Mikie Mahtook (OF, LSU), Austin Nola (SS, LSU) and Matt Ott (RHP, LSU).

Alabama has had strong history with USA Baseball, including two gold medal winners. Left-hand pitcher Tim Young (1996-97) won a gold medal with Team USA in 2000 Summer Olympics and right-hand pitcher Tommy Hunter won a gold medal with the 2006 USA National Team.
