Alabama Swimming Adds Five Signees

The Alabama Swimming and Diving men's team signed five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent Coach Eric McIlquham announced. The three swimmers and two divers will join the five swimmers the Crimson Tide men inked earlier, pushing UA's incoming freshman class to 10.

"We're very excited about this group," Alabama Coach Eric McIlquham said. "The five who signed with us this spring really compliment the three we signed in November and give us a really balanced class that can help us in a lot of areas right of the bat."

Swimmers Brian Carr (New Orleans, La.), Cameron Conners (Huntsville, Ala.), Hunter Hinson (Cairo, Ga.), along with divers Jake Carloni (Branford, Conn.) and Luke Zippi (Melbourne, Fla.) all signed with the Tide in the spring signing period.

"Brian, Cameron and Hunter all have the potential to contribute right away, both individually and on relays," McIlquham said. "And both Luke and Jake have the ability to make an immediate impact with our diving contingent."

The Tide's five recent signees will join swimmers Vlad Caciuc (Baia Mare, Romania), Alexandru Coci (Baia Mare, Romania), BJ Hornikel (Goose Creek, S.C.), Devan Terry (Louisville, Ky.) and George Wong (Madison, Ala.) who signed earlier.

"Between the men's and the women's teams we've signed 20 student-athletes making this a big class that will bring a lot to the pool this fall," McIlqham said. "This group is not only strong athletically, but also academically. They understand that at Alabama, we're dedicated to success off the blocks and boards and in the classroom as well."

The women's team, which graduated a dozen seniors this season, signed eight swimmers and two divers in the early period: Callan Buck (Keller, Texas), Marissa Dressel (Buffalo, N.Y), Hillary Hahmann (Tampa, Fla.), Emese Kovacs (Baja, Hungary), Paige McCleary (Lake Worth, Fla.), Callie Nettles (Acworth, Ga.), Lauren Piper (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Kaitlin Schroeder (Mechanicsville, Va.), Orsolya Tompa (Budapest, Hungary) and Kristel Vourna (Patpas, Greece).
