Kirby Does Well In British Amateur
Kirby, who recently qualified for the 2010 United States Women's Open at Oakmont Country Club on July 8-11, dropped a 3&2 decision to the United States' Meghan Stasi in the round of eight.
Kirby, a native of Paris, Ontario, Canada, finished her freshman year at the Capstone with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships, which was the best individual finish in school history. She also set the Alabama freshman record for scoring average at 73.06 and was selected as a third-team All-American by Golfweek.
She knocked off the 2010 NCAA Champion from Oklahoma State and British Amateur No. 1-seed Carolina Hedwall in the third round 2-up. Kirby was 6-under-par before closing Sweden's Hedwall on the final hole. Kirby displaced France's Marion Ricordeau in the second round 4&2 and opened match play with a 3&1 win over England's Georgia Hall.
Kirby shot a 5-over-par 151 to qualify 17th at the 2010 Ladies British Open Amateur. She opened with a 2-over-par 75 before shooting 76 on the final 18 holes of qualifying.
