Except for the opening drive in which Brodie Croyle completed four straight passes en route to a touchdown, the Tide defense dominated Friday.

Afterwards, Coach Mike Price praised his players for how quickly they were picking up the new schemes.

(Above left) Anthony Madison (#9) defends his man. Madison worked mainly with the first unit at cornerback.

Brandon Avalos (#11) looks down field to make the pass. The redshirt freshman finished 7-of-12 for 53 yards and two interceptions, but Coach Mike Price noted afterwards that Avalos had several balls dropped by receivers.

Receiver Zach Fletcher (#80) works against redshirt freshman cornerback Ramzee Robinson (#17). Fletcher had three receptions for 35 yards and one touchdown.

With his quarterback under pressure, tailback Ray Hudson (#27) moves to block defensive tackle Jeremy Clark (#99). Coach Price's one-back offense requires bigger running backs, capable of holding their own in pass blocking.

Senior receiver Dre Fulgham (#3) looks back for the football. Fulgham had six catches for 54 yards Friday. Afterwards Offensive Coordinator Eric Price noted that most of the underneath routes that Fulgham should excel at had not yet been added to the offense.

Defensive end Chris Harris (#91) provides pressure while quarterback Spencer Pennington (#13) looks downfield. The Tide will need redshirt freshmen like Harris to contribute, if it hopes to be as good as last year's defensive unit.

Senior cornerback David Scott (#23) eyes his man.

Following Friday's scrimmage tailback Shaud Williams relaxes on the bench. Williams was one of several Tide tailbacks that ran well in the scrimmage, also including Kenneth Darby, Ray Hudson, Josh Smith, Ezzie Rawls, Nic Luke and Trevis O'Neal.

Ahmad Childress signs an autograph following Friday's scrimmage. Assuming they stay healthy and eligible, the Tide is set at defensive tackle with Anthony Bryant and Childress.
