Nick's Kids Gives Out $450,000
At Tuesday's luncheon, checks were presented to those charities and photographs were taken with the children as well as the volunteers.
"There are so many people that make this possible that it may be impossible to thank them all," said Alabama Coach Nick Saban. "This is my favorite day of the year. I know that it is a big time thing to win a national championship, but I enjoy what we do in helping so many people in this state and there are so many people that contribute to that in so many ways."
The money is raised through the annual Nick's Kids Golf Tournament, speaking engagements by Nick and Terry Saban, as well as individual donations.
"We have been able to do a little bit more each year," said Saban. "I think the support has grown in the state. Our golf outing has gotten bigger and bigger and bigger. We are just happy to be able to give back and hopefully we will continue to be able to do more in the future."
In addition to their work with Nick's Kids, the Sabans have also been generous in terms of their personal donation to the University of Alabama for scholarships. In June of 2008, Nick and Terry made a $1 Million pledge to the University for first-generation scholarships.
