Bama Athletics Seeking Walk-Ons

Of all the organizations that will have a presence at Wednesday's University of Alabama "Get on Board Day," only one gives UA students the chance to be NCAA Division I athletes. And the coaches don't expect the prospects to have previous experience in the sport.

The University of Alabama rowing team, in its fifth year of varsity competition, recruits women each Fall who have no rowing experience but are eager to work hard and proudly represent the Crimson Tide.

"Get on Board Day" is the prelude to an open meeting that will be held Thursday at 8 p.m. in Room 247 of Bryant Hall for those interested in joining the team.

The meeting, led by the Tide coaching staff, is informational in nature. All interested students are encouraged to attend and learn about what it takes to become part of The Capstone's newest varsity sport.

For more information about the meeting or the team, contact Assistant Coach Derek Tuten at .

The Crimson Tide rowing team practices on the Black Warrior River. The first event of the Fall season will be Oct. 9 in Chattanooga.
