Appalachian State will host what could well be the final official visit weekend for the 2017 class starting Friday, January 20th. Confirmed as of this time are:
DeAndre Applin: Very powerful strong safety/nickel from Georgia Military College, who finished the season with 42 tackles, three sacks, and a fumble recovery. At 6’1, 195 lbs. Applin would bring versatility to an App State defense that could utilize his athleticism and physicality in multiples sets.
Earl Bostick: Long and athletic (6’5”, 270), Bostick played both ways working at offensive tackle and tight end offensively, and was All-Aiken Standard at defensive end. Bostick’s athleticism and size are reminiscent of current App State starting offensive tackle Vic Johnson, who played tight end in the Carolinas Shrine Bowl.
Ahman Ross: The Florida 4-A All-State safety initially committed to Miami (FL) in September, 2016 and de-committed in early May after a coaching staff change. Ross, 5’11”, 185 lb., is a Scout three-star prospect, who is also the 10th ranked safety in Florida, 43rd in the south, and 106th nationally.
Jalen Wade: Somewhat surprisingly committed to Georgia State last weekend but remained committed to a planned App State visit, as well. Wade is a prototypical inside linebacker, 6’2”, 200 lb., who recorded 45 tackles and two sacks at Georgia Military College in 2016. Wade is a second-cousin to current Mountaineer receiver Zy Letman.
In addition to these few remaining 2017 prospects, Appalachian will also host official visits for committed players OT Spencer Clapp, QB Peyton Derrick, RB Daetrich Harrington, and WR Thomas Hennigan.
App State Mania will provide weekend updates for premium member in AREA 3333 as available.
