D’Andre Hicks played quarterback for Charlotte High School during his senior season, and demonstrated his athletic explosiveness in earning the Suncoast Area Offensive Player of the Year honor. Hicks ran for 507 yards and eight scores on the ground, and also threw for 1,219 yards and 12 touchdowns with only two interceptions.
Hicks was also selected Florida 6-A All-State Honorable Mention and FACA All-District first-team.
Hicks projects at cornerback for App State, where he was All-Suncoast Area first-team as a junior. Hicks is a very high IQ player and his time at quarterback helps him understand the nuances of cornerback even more so. He has elite speed (4.39 recorded 40) and length with his reach, so handling speed routes is well within his skill set. Hicks is also explosive with the ball in his hands, so he has the unique ability to turn defense into offense with interceptions. Appalachian will value his height and length in the red zone.

APP STATE MANIA ANALYSIS
What you see in Hicks’ highlights is an explosive athlete with speed and vision, but it’s also striking that he plays with such calm. Rarely do you see him flustered, even under duress, and he makes great choices. Those traits will serve him well at cornerback, where quick reads and the ability to stay mentally focused are critical. Very high football IQ.
