Another Mountaineer from the Greenwood High School pipeline, Joe Hartung is a very promising offensive tackle candidate. Hartung had a season-long grade of 87 percent as a senior on his way to being named HSSR-SCHSL 5-A All-State, 5-A All-Region 2, All-Lakelands Area first-team, and played in the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives North/South All-Star game. Hartung likely projects as a right tackle in Appalachian’s offense.
Hartung joins current receiver Mock Adams and legendary Mountaineer alum Armanti Edwards as Greenwood graduates .
Hartung has the frame and skill set to grow into a Beau Nunn or Colby Gossett type of lineman, depending on how he responds to the strength and conditioning program. He already has advanced technical skills as a blocker and great instincts for getting into the second level of defenses. Hartung’s long reach are exactly what you want when handling speed-based edge rushers that are so common in the Sun Belt Conference.
