Anderson gearing up for a decision

This past weekend 6-7 193 forward Juan Anderson took his last official trip, a visit to Arizona State. The Castro Valley (Calif.) standout talked to Devils Digest following his trip to Tempe and discussed not only his recruitment but also his friendship with five-star guard and fellow ASU prospect Jabari Brown.

"The visit went really well, I liked it," Juan Anderson said. "I was hosted by Kyle Cain and hung out with the guys, got a feel for the campus and the team, and watched some game film. Their film room was the thing that impressed me the most of their practice facility and that facility is very nice."

Anderson is touted as a solid all-around player and is rated by as the top small forward for the 2011 class.

"The (Arizona State) coaches like my versatility," Anderson stated, "and that gives him a lot of opportunity to play early. They said that I have a chance to make an impact as a freshman but at the same time they said that I have to work hard to earn it. In their offense I can play the 1 through the 4 position.

"I'm 6-7 and I can handle the ball and I can pass it really well so that gives me an advantage. I try to model my game after Carmelo Anthony. I do want to tighten up my handle, my jump shot and pretty much my entire game. You can always improve on everything."

Anderson already visited Marquette and Oregon, and unofficially took a visit to nearby Cal. The forward stated that these three schools, along with ASU, are the only programs he is considering.

"All the programs have something different to offer," Anderson remarked, "and they all have amazing coaches. I just have to take my time and see what the best fit is for me. I have no pressure to stay close to home. My mom has her own opinion but there is no pressure. I'm not thinking that I have to stay close to home or have to get away from home. I'm just looking for the best fit.

"I'm looking for an opportunity to play, player development, a winning program and how I can fit in with the coaches and the players. All the schools I'm looking at are very good schools and it's going to be a tough decision. I don't know if I'm going to decide this week or next. Whenever I get that feeling that I want to go to a certain school that's when I'm going to make my decision."

Anderson's close friend Jabari Brown ironically visited Tempe just a few days before the Castro Valley forward did and both did talk to each other about their recruitment with the Sun Devils.

"We always talk about the opportunity to play together," Anderson acknowledged. "But at the end of the day I have to make the best decision for me because I have to live with that decision. The best decision for me may not be the best decision for him.

"Jabari told me that he liked his visit to Arizona State and he said it would be cool if both played there. But that doesn't mean that he isn't weighing his options."
