Fresno WR to visit Sun Devils

B.J. Kelley has been garnering recruiting attention from near and afar, yet the Fresno Central wide receiver seems to be focused these days on a few Pac-10 programs. Arizona State has recently stepped up its recruiting efforts with the three-star wide receiver and as a result will host him on an official trip this weekend.

"(Arizona State tight ends) Coach Jamie Christian offered me a scholarship last year," said the 6-2 175 B.J. Kelley. "I haven't been to Arizona State before and I want to learn more about what kind of school they are and what kind of offense they run. After they offered me I haven't heard from them in a long time and the last few weeks they have been recruiting me hard so I'm going down there to check it out."

Even on a run-oriented 5-2 Grizzlies football team, Kelley has managed to score ten touchdowns so far this season, and overall has hauled in 32 receptions and 738 yards. Last year he was voted All-Conference as he posted 33 catches for 758 yards and eight touchdowns.

"Coach Christian told me that he likes my speed," said Kelley who reported a 40-yard dash marks of 4.43,"and also how explosive I am off the ball. I have a 42-inch vertical and good hands. I try to model my game after Reggie Wayne.

"Even though our offense runs the ball a lot it isn't hard for me to stand out. Whenever I get the ball thrown to me I just make the most of it."

Kelley visited the University of Arizona on September 25th and plans to visit Oregon on November 6th.

"Oregon is my favorite school right now," Kelley stated, "and Arizona is right below them. I don't plan right now to visit more schools."

Schools as far as Northwestern and Eastern Michigan have offered Kelley, who claimed that distance from home won't be a major factor in his decision.

"Academics are the most important to me," Kelley remarked, "and I also want to go to a team where I can get playing time right away. I want to good to a school that I feel is a good fit for me.

"I want to make the right decision so I'm not rushing into anything. I don't know if I'm going to commit before the season is over or after. I want to make sure I'm taking my time."
