Lady Devils win Pac-10 opener

Arizona State ended the 2010 calendar in dramatic fashion as they began league play edging Oregon State 49-46.

The Sun Devils (8-2) held a 16-11 advantage over Oregon State (7-4) at the 10:31 mark, but the visitors were able to erase that deficit and tied the game at 21 apiece at halftime. In the second half the Beavers were able to lead for most of the period and with 5:57 left in the contest held a slim 37-36 lead.

ASU went on a 10-3 run to reclaim the lead, 47-39, with 3:21 left and were able to hold off a pesky Oregon State squad.

Kimberly Brandon was 8 for 13 from the field leading the Sun Devils with 19 points. Pac-10 player of the week, Dymond Simon was added 13 total points for the hosts. Oregon State's Sage Indendi led all players with 20 points and was near perfect from the field shooting 8 for 10. Teammate Alyssa Martin contributed 16 points for the Beavers.

The Lady Sun Devils were outshot in the field 42 percent to 35 percent but the bench came through scoring 10 points. ASU controlled the boards hauling in 37 rebounds to Oregon State's 28. Kimberly Brandon paced ASU with 11 caroms. The Lady Sun Devils committed 15 turnovers but forced the Beavers to 19 turnovers.

ASU ends the 2010 calendar year on a six-game winning streak and will look to continue that momentum on Sunday afternoon as they take on Oregon at Wells Fargo Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
