ASU loses their first Pac-10 game

Coming into tonight's game the Lady Sun Devils (10-2, 2-0 Pac-10) knew that they had quite a challenge facing their first road trip of the conference. With a staggering seven-game win streak, the Devils traveled to California (8-4,0-1 Pac-10) and never led once in the game falling 67-55.

From the opening tip-off, the Lady Golden Bears took control as they were able to capture their first Pac-10 victory. Starting off with a 10-2 run at the 14:31 mark, Cal dominated the rest of the way.

Down at the half (38-28), ASU had trouble taking control of the ball. Kali Bennett who was back from a minor injury last week posted 6 points, 3 Reb, 1 Ast, and 1 Blk in that period.

DeNesha Stallworth added 10 points for Cal in the first twenty minutes and finished the game with a total of 16.

The Lady Sun Devils did come back to trail the Bears only by four in the beginning of the second half 40-36, but that was as close as the visitors would come to reverse their fortunates Thursday night in Berkeley.

Becca Tobin paced the Lady Sun Devils with a career-high 24 points, and was the only ASU player with double figure scoring. Cal's was led by Layshia Clarendon's 24 points. The maroon and gold could not match up with Cal's offense tonight and were held to just 37.3 field goal percentage.

ASU's leading scorer Dymond Simon was suffering from an injured right foot and scored a season-low of six points. She did add six assists.

Up next the Lady Sun Devils is #4 Stanford who recently took down #1 Connecticut and snapped the Huskies' NCAA record 90-game winning streak. It will definitely be a tall order for ASU to bounce back in the win column against one of the nation's best. Tip-off from Palo Alto is Saturday, at 8pm M.T.
