Devils Bounce Back, Annihilate Antelopes

The Arizona State baseball team faced in-state foe Grand Canyon University on Monday at Packard Stadium and defeated the Antelopes 10-2 in front of 2,020 fans. The Devils improved to 35-7 with the win.

Robbie McClellan (5-0) started the game for the Devils, and had a good outing, giving up just one run in five innings of work with seven strikeouts. Jered Liebeck and Erik Averill each pitched an inning, not giving up a run. Five other Devils came in relief for the last three innings, allowing one run.

The Devils took a quick lead in the first inning when Jeremy West drove in Jeff Larish off of a single. ASU erupted for five more runs in the second inning, starting off with Rod Allen who was driven in by Tuffy Gosewisch. Gosewisch had a solid game, going three for three with two RBI's. In the seventh inning, Steve Garrabrants went deep for the sixth time this year, scoring three. ASU would add another run when Gosewisch drove in Andre Ethier for his second RBI of the game to take a 10-1 lead.

Also recording multi-hit games were Dustin Pedroia (two for five), Larish (two for five, one RBI), and Garrabrants (two for four, three RBI's). Antelopes ASU travels to Berkeley, California this weekend to face the Cal Bears at Evans Diamond. Cal is currently 20-14 overall and 6-3 in Pac-10 play.
