Lady Sun Devils Edge Trojans on the road

The Lady Sun Devils (12-6, 4-4 Pac-10) wrapped up their Southern California road trip with a visit to USC (13-6, 5-3 Pac-10). Coming off a loss to the Bruins, ASU was looking for a split on the road and were able to do so with a slim 62-61 win.

The first half was a great saw ASU ay its best. Their defensive intensity was of their best this year, and USC wasn't able to find any answers offensively for the visitors from Tempe. ASU held 33-21 advantage at halftime and seemed to be in control.

In the second half the tide completely turned. The Trojans outscored the Lady Sun Devils 40-29 and came dangerously close to completing the comeback. ASU was certainly hampered today when Dymond Simon, who led ASU with 13 points, left the game with a concussion. However her fellow senior Becca Tobin scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half with her last two being the game winner with just 24 seconds left on the clock. Tobin added 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Her presence under the basket allowed her team to control the boards and strengthen the Devils' interior defense. ASU was also 14 of 15 from the free throw line which naturally came in handy in such a tight contest.

ASU returns home on Thursday to play the #4 ranked Stanford Cardinal. Tip-off from Wells Fargo Arena is 6:00pm.
