On the defensive side of the ball, the Lady Devils were not able to stop Arizona as they got easy baskets in transition and in the interior of the Devils defense. The half ended in a buzzer beater by Dymond Simon as the Devils trail 27-28.
For the seniors on the Lady Devils, this is the last time they will ever be able to play against their rival school University of Arizona as they need to play their best basketball all year in order to keep the streak going of 12 straight wins. Senior leader Dymond Simon had 21 points and stood out for Arizona State all game.
At one point in the second half there were a total of 18 lead changes, but one player for the Wildcats just had the will and the drive to get her first win against the Lady Devils for the first time in her career. Senior, Ify Imbekwe who did not play the first time these teams met, had 22 total points and 22 rebounds. She was too much for the Devils as she was able to easily score on the Arizona State defense. Along with poor defense, once again the Devils gave up way to many turnovers that seemed to snowball as the game went on. As it has been all year, the Devils are at their best when they are playing strong defense, but unfortunately that was not the case in today's game.
Next up for the Lady Sun Devils in a trip to the University of Washington and a matchup against the Huskies. Tip-off is on Thursday February 17th at 7:00pm PT.
