Blandin looks forward to ASU visit

Close to 100 2012 prospects are expected to descend on Tempe this Saturday for the Sun Devils' Junior Day event. One of those unofficial visitors will be Long Beach (Calif.) Poly wide receiver Josiah Blandin who has been holding ASU in high regard during the recruiting process.

"I call up (Arizona State wide receivers) Coach Broussard every few weeks and he keeps me up to date on what is going on with the team," said the 6-4 192 Josiah Blandin. "They offered me about a month and a half ago and recruiting has been going real good with them. Last year I went to see Arizona State play Oregon (in Tempe) and I felt right at home when I was there. All the coaches were really nice and I know some of the players like Alden Darby and Mike Willie. It was a great atmosphere.

"I really like their spread offense a lot because the wide receivers are really involved, but it's a balanced offense because they run the ball a lot too. I know they have a lot of receivers leaving after this year so if I go there I know I have a good chance playing as a freshman or as a sophomore."

As a junior for the 8-3 Jackrabbits Blandin collected 356 receiving yards averaging over 15 yards a catch and scored three touchdowns.

"The coaches recruiting me like my size and my hands," Blandin stated. "I'm not the fastest receiver but I run good routes and use my size against smaller corners to make plays. I'm a big target in the passing game and I try to model my game after Randy Moss because we're both tall receivers.

"I played in the Badger 7x7 in Las Vegas last week and our team made it to the finals, but lost. I played against some very good corners there and every time they threw the ball to me I caught it. I know I have to get stronger and faster before I get to college, and also work on my footwork and technique."

Ironically, Blandin's only other offer to date comes from Northern Arizona but some of ASU's Pac-12 foes have been pursuing Blandin as well such as UCLA, Washington and Oregon State. Nebraska, Georgia and LSU have shown interest as well.

Nonetheless, Blandin hasn't ruled out making an early commitment and it is no coincidence that he will be in Sun Devil country this weekend.

"If I like what I see on Saturday I wouldn't mind committing to Arizona State," Blandin admitted. "But I could also see myself committing later in the season after checking out schools. I may check out Washington's spring game.

"But there is more than a likely chance that I will commit to Arizona State this weekend. I really like the school, my mom likes it too and I feel like I really fit in there. It would also be nice to make an early decision so I can focus on my senior year."
