ASU Joins Melvin's Top Three

Laveen (Az.) Fairfax DE Dwight Melvin didn't wait long after receiving an offer from the Sun Devils to visit campus and check things out for himself.

On Monday afternoon, Laveen (Ariz.) Fairfax defensive end Dwight Melvin received his third scholarship offer, from Arizona State.

"The head coach called," Melvin reported. "They had just finished watching film on me. They said, ‘we can't wait to get you out here on a visit and come to one of our camps', and they said I was explosive off the ball, had great hands, and footwork. They said I'd be a great addition to the team."

Melvin didn't wait long after receiving the offer to check the school out for himself.

"It was great being there for the first time," Melvin told Scout.com following his Tempe visit on Tuesday.

"They gave us a full campus tour, showed us some dorms, we got to talk to the players to see how it really is from their perspectives, got to see where the players eat, the locker room, the field, things like that."

Melvin had previously named Arizona and UCLA as his two leaders, but ASU has managed to join in on the prospect's short list of favorites.

"Since I'm only visiting three schools so far, I'd put them in my top three in there with Arizona and UCLA," he said. "I already visited UA last weekend and I'm visiting UCLA next weekend. Once I visit UCLA, I'll really see who's in my top."

Melvin says that at this point his top three is in no particular order, merely a list that will be ordered after his visit to Westwood on June 18th.

The 6-foot-1, 265-pound athlete will have chances to see more from the Sun Devils on Wednesday and Sunday, as he will be attending camps at ASU on both days.

"I'm hoping to learn new techniques and new skills to go against the offensive line," he shared of what he's looking forward to gaining from ASU's Elite Camp on Sunday.

So far, he likes what he saw.

"ASU is a beautiful campus," Melvin says. "Great dorms and the athletics are awesome."
