Devils Notch Impressive Win On The Road

The fourth ranked Arizona State baseball team traveled to Oklahoma City to play the Oklahoma Sooners for a one game series. After winning two out of three in Tempe, the Devils took one from OU in front of their home crowd 9-4. ASU improved to 43-9 on the season with the win.

Starter Erik Averill pitched two innings, allowing two Sooners to cross the plate. Beau Vaughan (8-3) earned the win in his three innings of scoreless pitching. He struck out five on his way to his 88th strikeout on the season, second in the Pac-10.

After Oklahoma took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Devils tied it in the third when Frank Mesa scored on a fielder's choice. Dustin Pedroia would get his second RBI of the game when Steve Garrabrants scored on a sacrifice fly. ASU would take the lead for good in a six run sixth inning that saw ASU tie the national record for grand slams in a season with 12, when Rod Allen hit his sixth home run of the season. Garrabrants was the only Devil with a multi-hit game.

ASU hosts UC-Irvine next Tuesday after taking the rest of the week off for finals.
