Devils Cruise in Last Non-Conference Game

The third ranked Arizona State baseball team faced UC-Irvine to finish off their non-conference schedule and won in a convincing fashion. With the win, ASU improved to 44-9 on the year and finished off the regular season 34-4 outside of the Pac-10 schedule.

Starter Ben Thurmond (6-0) pitched a solid three innings, not giving up a run. Jered Liebeck, Robbie McClellan, and Bryce Kartler combined to pitch the fourth through sixth innings, and Ryan Schroyer pitched the last two, striking out four.

Jeremy West continued his hot streak, with his seventh home run in five games, and now has 16 on the season. He ended up two for four, adding four RBI's. Jeff Larish and Dustin Pedroia added multi-hit games for ASU. Pedroia hit his 29th double on the year to pull within one of the school record.

ASU took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning when Nick Walsh and Dustin Pedroia both scored on wild pitches. The Devils extended their lead to 3-0 in the second inning when Steve Garrabrants hit his seventh home run on the year. West's home runs came in the seventh and eighth innings, and ASU won the game 11-1.

ASU travels to Corvallis, Oregon to face Oregon State on Monday for a three game set.
