Baseball Team Wins Seventh Consecutive Game

The fourth ranked ASU baseball team traveled to Corvallis to face the Oregon State Beavers. After trailing early on, the Devils came back to win the first of the three game series, and improved to 45-9 on the season. ASU has now won seven straight games, and improved to 11-5 in Pac-10 play.

Starter Ben Thurmond was straddled for four runs off of seven hits in just 3 1/3 innings pitched while Robbie McClellan earned the win and improved to 6-0 on the season. He pitched 3 2/3 innings, not giving up a run. Bryce Kartler pitched the eighth and ninth innings, giving up just two hits in the 14-4 ASU win.

Oregon State took a 3-0 lead in the second inning, but ASU made a quick turnaround to tie the game up in the top of the third when Jeremy West doubled to left center, scoring Andre Ethier. Travis Buck would also hit his fourth home run on the season, also driving in West. ASU would add another three runs in the fourth inning keyed by Andre Ethier's single that scored Dustin Pedroia and Tuffy Gosewisch. Earlier in the inning, Pedroia hit his 30th double on the season, tying an ASU single season record.

The Devils pounded out 14 runs off of 13 hits, the 28th time they have had 10 or more runs this season. Five Devils (Pedroia, Ethier, Jeff Larish, Buck, and Steve Garrabrants) all recorded multi-hit games. Pedroia and Ethier each scored three runs, while Buck and Larish each recorded three RBI's.
