Bowl tickets should be purchased through ASU

Ever since the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl officially announced that it had selected Arizona State to face Navy on December 29th, Sun Devil fans have been busy making their travel plans for San Francisco to attend that contest. What some ASU followers may not realize, is how important it is for them to purchase tickets through the ASU ticket office rather than other outlets.

Rocky Harris, Arizona State's Senior Athletic Director for External Relations, said that one of his department's missions is trying to build a culture of support by Sun Devil fans across the country attending athletic events, especially one that is so nationally visible as a bowl game.

"This is a high profile event," Harris explained, "and it can really show that our program is building for something much bigger. So fan support at a bowl game is huge. We are the largest institution in the country with a large alumni base and we are trying to get them to rally around our athletics program in any city, especially when it's a bowl game."

Harris stated that one of the most significant factors in any bowl committee's decision on which teams to invite is rooted in the amount of fan support a participant program can provide.

"The bowl wants to know if those fans will travel well," Harris commented. "So we want to show that we do have that support and that in the next few years we will get selected over other Pac-12 teams because the bowl will know that we not only have an exciting product on the field, but we will be able to also support it with a huge fan base.

"This is something that coach Todd Graham and (Vice President of Athletics) Steve Patterson really believe in, and that is getting that community support. A big part of that is showing that we can travel well."

Sources have previously indicated to Devils Digest that the school was allotted close to 11,000 tickets for this game. Tickets are currently on sale for season ticket holders only and on December 10th tickets will go on sale for the general public.

Needless to say that Sun Devil fans have a few different options on how to purchase those tickets, yet Harris stressed the importance of those tickets being purchased through the ASU ticket office.

"If fans buy these tickets through other vendors, it doesn't show up as an ASU fan buying tickets," Harris noted. "What we are trying to do is not only sell out our tickets but we want to show the bowl that if we ever wanted to get invited back that we do have that community support. So, we need fans to buy the tickets through us because that is the number that they count at the end of the day.

"We will have the best tickets for the fans because they will be in an ASU only ticket section and long term it will positively impact the athletic department as we are bidding for bowls and convince them that we should go there over a different team."

Harris said that the athletic department has already received "An overwhelming response" from the large alumni base in Northern California, an area which isn't only important for student-athlete recruiting but also for general student body recruiting.

"We told the bowl committee that we are going to have a large amount of support from our fan base," Harris said. "So we are excited how this started and we want to get the word out to come to us to purchase tickets and we will make sure that our fans are taken care of."
