Cameron Judge talks ASU Visit

Even before he arrived in Tempe for his official visit, Cameron Judge indicated that he was down to two schools: UCLA and Arizona State. Devils Digest caught up with the Oaks Christian (Calif.) four-star linebacker following his trip to get his thoughts about his recruitment with just two weeks left before Letter of Intent Day.

"I had a lot of fun on the visit," Judge said. "I'm going to sit down with my dad when I get home, go over everything about that school and try to get to a conclusion. I liked seeing the weight room, the locker room…it was all very cool and got me excited to playing college football next year.

"I always had Arizona State high on the list and after the visit they're even higher. They impressed me."

Another attractive aspect of his visit was being hosted by his former high school teammate and current Arizona State linebacker, Carlos Mendoza, who hosted Judge on the visit, was able to give him a player's perspective on the program.

"Carlos told me how disciplined Coach Graham and the other coaches made the program," Judge described, "and how much they can be with those coaches. So he was excited about it all. He couldn't wait to get out there playing.

"I also played football in Canada when I was like ten years old against Terrell Davis (current ASU running back), so it was good talking to him too. I also knew (tight end) Chris Coyle."

The 6-2 215-pound Cameron Judge is ranked 20th by among 2013 linebackers. National Recruiting Analyst, Greg Biggins, offered this evaluation of the running back.

"A very good prospect with a nice skill set," Biggins said. "Has ideal size for a weak side backer and a frame that will carry more weight. He's a huge hitter who runs well and plays with an edge. He has a nice motor and has improved his overall athleticism and cover skills. He plays with a high football IQ and does a nice job directing a defense. Judge is definitely among the top overall 'backers in the West region with a very nice upside."

Judge stated that Sun Devil staff is recruiting him as a Spur linebacker, which is a safety/linebacker hybrid role in the ASU defense.

"The coaches said they like my speed and athleticism," Judge said. "They want to use me coming off the edge a lot, but also being able to cover a slot receiver. I wanted to get bigger and get more size on me for the next level so I can protect myself better.

"I like all the pressure this defense brings because we do a lot of that at Oaks Christian."

In recent interviews, Judge indicated that in terms of his short list he was down to UCLA, who he committed to earlier in the process and Arizona State. In our conversation today the linebacker confirmed that assertion and said he isn't exploring any other programs.

"I don't know what would make me stay committed to UCLA or choose Arizona State," Judge explained, "and I have to sit down and think about it for a while before I say anything about that. I could make a decision this week or next, as long it's before signing day because I don't want to wait that long.

"When I decide which school to go to everything will be a factor for me. It's really close between both schools, but there may be one school a little higher than the other."

Judge declined to say which school had the lead right now for his services. The answer though could be coming sooner rather than later.
