Carrington reports on ASU visit

With just little over a week before signing day, four-star wide receiver and Oregon soft verbal Darren Carrington is still exploring his options. His latest official visit was to Arizona State this past weekend, and the San Diego native shared his experiences from Tempe with Devils Digest and whether the Sun Devils will be in his short list of favorites.

The 6-2 175-pound Darren Carrington committed to Oregon last June. The head coaching change in Eugene prompted several schools to pursue the wide receiver and Carrington in turn has been receptive to some of those overtures. Consequently, Arizona State is one school he is now considering as Letter of Intent Day looms large.

Last weekend was actually Carrington's second trip to Tempe, as he unofficially visited there in the summer while playing in a baseball tournament in Phoenix. These two visits are now peaking his interest regarding the Sun Devils.

"The visit went will," Carrington said. "I liked the basketball game and seeing everything with the campus and the facilities. I enjoyed the most talking to the coaches. Coach Randolph is recruiting me and I got to talk a lot to the wide receivers coach, Coach Alexander. He (Alexander) explained the offense to me and said that they were looking for a 9-receiver, which is a back-side X wide receiver.

"I like how this offense puts you in a position to succeed. The coaches like how physical I am and that I run good routes. I'm someone that wants to improve on everything about my game."

In his senior year for San Diego Horizon High School, Carrington collected 51 catches for 902 yards and 12 TD's, and also rushed for 202 yards and four scores. On defense he collected 65 total tackles for the Panthers.

Carrington stated that he was impressed with ASU's recent 8-5 campaign and believes that after they accomplished so much in their first year, that they are now "a young team on the rise."

Quarterback Taylor Kelly and wide receiver Kevin Ozier hosted Carrington during the visit.

"I had a lot of fun hanging out with them," Carrington remarked. "It's a fun environment to be around."

The wide receiver said when it comes to making his decision that he is still considering Oregon, as well as ASU and Ohio State which is scheduled to get a visit from Carrington on Friday. The Horizon standout visited Arizona last weekend and when asked if the Wildcats will be on his short list he replied: "potentially."

Carrington noted that proximity to home "isn't really a factor" when it comes to his ultimate decision, which he plans to make on February 6th's Letter of Intent Day.
