Kellogg bounced back in the second, going three-up, three-down. Drew Stankiewicz and Johnny Sewald each singled in the Sun Devil half of the second, but neither was able to score.
The Cougars were only able to manage two walks and a single off of Kellogg in the top of the third. With the bases loaded, Kellogg got the batter to strikeout and then with the help of catcher, Max Rossiter, made an impressive play at the plate to get the third out.
The Sun Devils came out swinging in their half of the inning. Michael Benjamin led off the bottom of the third with a single up the middle. After a James McDonald walk and a sacrifice bunt by Rossiter, Trever Allen flied out to center; scoring Benjamin. Jake Peevyhouse then singled to center; scoring McDonald. Freshman David Graybill kept the hot streak going, doubling to left field; scoring Peevyhouse. ASU notched three runs on three hits in the inning.
After the third inning, Kellogg pitched four hitless innings. Things were also quiet for the Sun Devils, as they only managed two hits in the next four innings.
Alex Blackford relieved Kellogg in the eighth and got the first two outs of the inning. Matt Dunbar came in for Blackford and got the final out of the top of the inning. Allen, Peevyhouse, and Graybill went three-up, three-down in the Sun Devil half of the inning.
Freshman Ryan Burr came in to close the game for ASU. The freshman has been impressive so far this season, and continued to do so Saturday night. Burr struck out the side, collecting his third save of the season.
Ryan Kellogg knew he had to help his team bounce back from the loss to the Cougars Friday night and the freshman knew he had done his job Saturday night. "It was definitely extra motivation. You don't want to come into Pac play 0-2. I just wanted to go out there and give our team a chance to win any way we could", said the freshman, "The team came with a lot more energy today. We were all ready to go. We took yesterday as motivation to come out and fight hard today."
"I thought our kids were ready to go tonight." said Head Coach Tim Esmay. "They were ready to kind of set the tempo a little bit and push the envelope a little bit and put it back on them. We did a good job of doing that tonight."
The Sun Devils try to win the series against the Cougars Sunday afternoon. LHP Adam McCreery will be on the mound for ASU and RHP Scott Simon will be on the mound for Washington State. First pitch is at 12:30 p.m.
