Devils Downed at Oregon

Arizona State's road woes continued as they dropped their fourth contest in a row away from Tempe, losing 85-78 to Oregon.

It its last road game prior to Tuesday night, Arizona State (21-8, 10-7 Pac-12) was already down and out mid-first half when they trailed then by nearly 20 points to Utah. Against Oregon (21-8, 9-8) it seemed as if they would suffer a similar fate as the Ducks opened the game with a 15-0 lead. The Sun Devils answered with a 16-2 run of their own to come within one point, 17-16, but was never able to lead at any point of the contest.

Trailing at halftime 33-25 the visitors were sluggish to begin the second stanza and found themselves down 47-33 with just four plus minutes gone by. A 12-4 run by ASU brought down the deficit to 55-52 midway through the period, but the Sun Devils weren't able to sustain that momentum, going on a field goal drought of five minutes down the stretch to eventually fall to the Ducks.

Jahii Carson who usually excels away from the friendly confines of Tempe, did so again and led all players with 28 points, 22 of them scored in the second half. The sophomore was 4-5 from beyond the arc and as a team ASU shot 44.4% from three-point range. Jermaine Marshall had 16 points, Bo Barnes added 13 points as did Jordan Bachynski who also had 11 rebounds to record his 12th double-double of the season. Mike Moser paced Oregon with 22 points and 17 rebounds.

Arizona State hasn't hurt its NCAA tournament chances with this loss, but is now jeopardy to not finish in the top four spots of the conference which would give it a first round bye in the league tournament next week. The Sun Devils however do control their own fate in this regard as a win in the regular season finale, at Oregon State, will net them a third place finish. Tip-off from Corvallis is scheduled for Saturday at 2:30 PM MT.
