Cote talks ASU offer

As much as Cade Cote enjoyed Arizona State's spring practice last Saturday, suffice to say that he liked what took place following that session that much more.

"I met with Coach Graham in his office after the scrimmage and that's when he offered me," Cote said. "He told that me that he likes how I play and that I fit his program. He told me how his program is full of respectful players and that I'm a perfect for that. I also talked to Coach Thomsen who likes how I play nasty. He also likes my frame because I'm lean and can move and that is the type of offensive lineman he wants to have on the team.

"I wasn't expecting to get a scholarship when I visited there, so it was a nice surprise."

The 6-4 270-pound Cade Cote said that he noticed though that Arizona State was stepping up its recruiting efforts in recent weeks. Arizona was his only offer prior to the Sun Devils' one, and Colorado is another school that has been recruiting the Gilbert lineman in earnest.

"I'm a player that plays nasty and angry," Cote described. "I like to finish my blocks to the ground. I move well for an offensive lineman, but I need to work more on hip explosion and blocking through contact and defenders."

The lineman reported weight room marks of 365 lbs. benching, 515 squatting and 285 lbs. on the power clean.

While Cote mentioned that initially he did seek to play his college football away from home, he's now more inclined to stay in-state having offers from both ASU and Arizona.

"When I choose a school I'm going to look at facilities and coaches," Cote remarked. "I think I will decide before my season is over but I'm not sure yet. Coach Thomsen didn't say if I will play tackle or guard. I'd prefer to play tackle but if a school wanted me to play guard that wouldn't sway me away from them."

Cote plans to go to future ASU and Arizona spring practices, as well as Colorado's team camp on June 1st. He doesn't expect to make a decision before that visit to Boulder.
