"I wasn't expecting to get a scholarship when I visited there, so it was a nice surprise."
The 6-4 270-pound Cade Cote said that he noticed though that Arizona State was stepping up its recruiting efforts in recent weeks. Arizona was his only offer prior to the Sun Devils' one, and Colorado is another school that has been recruiting the Gilbert lineman in earnest.
"I'm a player that plays nasty and angry," Cote described. "I like to finish my blocks to the ground. I move well for an offensive lineman, but I need to work more on hip explosion and blocking through contact and defenders."
The lineman reported weight room marks of 365 lbs. benching, 515 squatting and 285 lbs. on the power clean.
While Cote mentioned that initially he did seek to play his college football away from home, he's now more inclined to stay in-state having offers from both ASU and Arizona.
"When I choose a school I'm going to look at facilities and coaches," Cote remarked. "I think I will decide before my season is over but I'm not sure yet. Coach Thomsen didn't say if I will play tackle or guard. I'd prefer to play tackle but if a school wanted me to play guard that wouldn't sway me away from them."
Cote plans to go to future ASU and Arizona spring practices, as well as Colorado's team camp on June 1st. He doesn't expect to make a decision before that visit to Boulder.
