Vocality of the Secondary

James Johnson became the third member of the Arizona State secondary to don a Pat Tillman practice jersey, an honor that requires an audible presence on a daily basis as the team prepares for the 2015 season.

Sophomore safety James Johnson became the youngest player to don the No. 42 Pat Tillman camouflage practice jersey during Saturday's scrimmage, an honor given to Arizona State players for outstanding commitment to football, academics and a service mentality away from school.

The Sun Devils now have three defensive players who are wearing the Tillman jersey in practices this spring, all of whom are in the secondary, as Johnson joins senior safety Jordan Simone and senior cornerback Lloyd Carrington.

Johnson, Simone and ASU secondary coach Chris Ball discussed the distinction with us, and how their approach requires a loud vocal presence at the team's Kajikawa Practice Facilty.
