Moore plans visit; likes Spur position

Louisiana has been a huge recruiting target zone for Arizona State in the 2016 class, unlike any time in program history. Linebacker Kevin Moore is one of many prospects with an offer from the Sun Devils in the state and he has a lot of interest in the program.

Kevin Moore said he is linebacker who can do everything on defense and Arizona State is interested in the versatile athlete.

Moore is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound, three-star, outside linebacker from Acadiana High School in Lafayette, La., claims an offer from ASU. He is ranked the No. 2 outside linebacker in Louisiana.

Moore said he has spoken with a lot of ASU coaches but usually communicates with defensive coordinator Keith Patterson and is being recruited to play the Spur linebacker position.

The Spur is a hybrid between an outside linebacker and defensive back and Moore said he possesses the skill set to play the position.

“I think it fits me perfect,” Moore said. “I like to blitz and I can cover and I can stop the run.”

The Spur position is one of the reasons Moore said he is interested in the Sun Devils and said he will make a visit to see their program this summer, though there's currently no specific date set for his trip to Tempe.

On the trip, Moore said he wants to experience the environment at ASU.

“I really want to see what the vibe is like,” Moore said. “I want to see the people around the school. I want to talk to all the coaches, stuff like that, learn more about the school.”

AS of this week, Moore said he has 14 total scholarship offers. In addition to ASU, he said he has offers from Arkansas State, Cal, Kansas State, Miami, Tulane, Texas Tech, Southern Mississippi, University of Louisiana-Lafayette, University of Louisiana-Monroe and Western Kentucky.

Moore has had a busy offseason taking visits. He said he has visited UL-Lafayette in his hometown. He said he also took trips to Louisiana Tech, Louisville, Southern Mississippi and Western Kentucky.

In the summer, he said he also wants to visit some schools in Texas.

“I have some in mind that I think I’m going to,” Moore said. “Right now, I’m thinking about Texas Tech for this summer and I’m thinking about going to TCU this summer. I’m thinking about going to Houston. That’s all I got in mind right now.”

Moore said he has some of the usual concerns when looking for the right school.

“I’m looking for a good place,” Moore said. “I want to be around good people. I want to be around great coaches to make me better as person and a player. I want to make sure I leave college with a good education.”

At this point, Moore said he does not have a timetable set when he will trim his list down. He also said he does not know when he will make his commitment.

He said his recruitment is open at the moment. But, he did say he has “a bunch of schools” that are sticking out to him. He said he did not want say which schools are in that group, but did say ASU was one of them.
