Commitments

Dillon Sterling-Cole is the No. 16 ranked quarterback prospect nationally and No. 252 overall recruit in the country, he gave the Sun Devils his pledge over Florida, Houston, Mississippi State, Texas A&M. At the time of his commitment the 6-foot-3 190-pounder was the highest ranked high school commit in the class for ASU and was the second highest ranked uncommitted quarterback in the country. He originally was recruited to ASU by former offensive coordinator Mike Norvell.

Tre Turner is someone who has been on ASU’s radar since his freshman year. The New Orleans-based prospect is being recruited to Arizona State by Mike Norvell. He committed to Mississippi State in mid-October but decommitted in January. He brings dynamic open field ability to the field and should be able to run between the tackles and make plays in the passing game. He also will play baseball for ASU.

Bubak, a Nebraska native, committed to Cornhuskers under coach Bo Pelini. ASU came into the picture in a big way after Nebraska fired Pelini. He was recruited to Arizona State by former tight ends coach Chip Long. A high school quarterback, he has already enrolled and will play primarily as a 3-Back.

At the time of his commitment, N'Keal Harry, a 6-foot-3, 210 pound wide receiver, became the Sun Devils' top-rated commit in the class. The No. 4 wide receiver prospect in the West and No. 114 overall recruit in the national 2016 class, Harry picked the Sun Devils over finalists Oregon, Texas A&M, USC and Washington. Harry is an important commitment for the Sun Devils not only because of his status as its highest ranked pledge but also because four-star fellow Scout300 recruit Chase Lucas is a teammate and good friend, and Harry has said he's part of a package duo with Saguaro defensive back Byron Murphy, another Scout300 member and lifelong friend.

Jeremy Smith switched from wide receiver to quarterback as a junior and will again play quarterback as a senior, but the Sun Devils are recruiting him as a wide receiver. He is the No. 141 wide receiver prospect nationally and No. 20 in Texas. He said he committed to ASU over offers from Houston, Maryland, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and others. He was recruited to ASU by DelVaughn Alexander.

Kyle Williams primarily plays quarterback but could play receiver or defensive back in college. Boise State, Cal, Colorado and Washington State had also reportedly offered Williams a scholarship. The 6-foot 180-pounder visited ASU earlier this year unofficially. The three-star prospect is the No. 68 ranked receiver in the country, the No. 14 receiver prospect in the West and the No. 11 ranked receiver prospect in California. He originally was recruited to ASU by former offensive coordinator Mike Norvell.

Cohl Cabral, the No. 37 ranked offensive tackle prospect nationally and the No. 5 ranked offensive tackle prospect in the West, chose ASU over scholarship offers from Arizona, California, Michigan, Oregon, Oregon State, Utah, USC and others. He was recruited to the Sun Devils by Chris Thomsen.

A.J. McCollum, a 6-foot-1, 285 pound center, had been committed to Cal, but ultimately decided it was in his best interest to make the switch, initially feeling that way with increasing confidence following his official visit to Tempe in December. ASU is graduating senior center and two-year starter Nick Kelly, who was recruited to ASU out of the same Northern California junior college league in which McCollum played for CCSF, which finished its season 12-1 and state champions.

Marshal Nathe became the Sun Devils’ first in-state commitment when he chose Arizona State in March. He currently ranks as the No. 1 offensive line prospect in Arizona and the No. 9 offensive guard prospect in the West. He was recruited to ASU by Chris Thomsen. He is on track to graduate early and enroll at ASU in January.

A 6-foot-5, 290 pound offensive tackle at Ventura College in Ventura, Calif., Tyson Rising committed to ASU on December 14th and will be able to sign with the program as a mid-year transfer eligible to enroll in January. He earned first-team all-conference and all-state honors for his 2015 season.

Christian Hill did not play high school football and landed at Glendale Community College after serving his country for four years in the Air Force. He was credited with 18 tackles and eight sacks for Glendale last year. He picked the Sun Devils over scholarship offers from Arizona,Oregon State, Washington State, Oregon, Purdue, San Diego State, Louisville and Colorado State..He had several other SEC programs showing interest in him at the time of his commitment. He will enroll in January.

A 6-foot-3, 235 pound Devil backer prospect, Subtyl had nine sacks and 54 tackles as a freshman last season at Victor Valley Junior College in Victorville, A native of Haiti, He moved to the United States with his father and two sisters early in his adolescence. He's only been playing football for three years. He is planning to graduate in the spring from Victor Valley and have three years to play two seasons at the Division I level. A strong and physical pass rusher, he is in the mold of what the Sun Devils are looking for in terms of the Devil backer position, He said he's benched 375 pounds and squatted roughly 500. He also claims to have run a 4.5 second 40-yard dash when at 230-pound range.

Koron Crump is a 6-foot-4, 220 pound 3-star linebacker who plays at Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, As a freshman at Fort Scott, he reportedly had 46 total tackles, 10 sacks and 15 and half tackles for loss. So far this season, he has 11 sacks, 16.5 tackles for loss. He is a mid-year graduate who projects as a pass rush specialist in nickel situations and could play multiple spots in the base defense. He chose ASU mainly over Cal but had also claimed offers from Baylor and Tennessee among others.

A three-star cornerback at Northeast Oklahoma A&M junior college, Chandler was committed to Oklahoma until Nov. 2, when he decided to re-open his recruitment. ASU immediately became a prominent player in his recruitment. He chose the Sun Devils over Nebraska among others. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder could play either cornerback or field safety

At 6-foot-0, 175 pounds, Chase Lucas is a four-star athlete who primarily plays running back at Chandler, but can project to different positions on offense or defense. He said ASU sold him on the vision of being a defensive back first who could then perhaps expand his role to some offensive reps. He is the No. 299 overall recruit in the Scout300 and is expected to compete for playing time next year.

J’Marcus Rhodes gave Arizona State his pledge after seeing the program in person. In doing so he turned down reported scholarship offers from Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma and Utah, among others. He is being recruited to Arizona State by Chris Ball. A projected December graduate, Rhodes would have two years to play two seasons at ASU.

Robbie Robinson, the East Region’s 7th-ranked cornerback, committed to Arizona State in July. The Maryland cornerback was recruited to ASU by Chip Long. He chose the Sun Devils over offers from Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Stanford, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia among others. Robinson, who is the 42nd-ranked cornerback in the country.

Jack Smith, the son of ASU baseball coach Tracy Smith, will play bandit/spur for the Sun Devils. He originally committed to UNLV as a quarterback last summer but changed his mind and committed to NAU. He also was offered by Florida Atlantic, New Mexico State, Eastern Michigan, Eastern Washington and Montana. He led the Mountain Pointe to an undefeated regular season and 12-1 overall record. On the year he completed 63% of his passes, threw for 2,005 yards and 15 touchdowns versus 4 interceptions. He also has rushed for 932 yards and 9 scores.

A 6-foot-3, 200 pound safety, Deion Guignard had 83 tackles and three interceptions as a redshirt freshman in 2015. He has three years of remaining eligibility and is expected to arrive in Tempe in May. He played quarterback in high school and redshirted in 2014 as a wide receiver before moving to safety last spring. He's only played safety with any degree of seriousness for one season. He was recruited to Arizona State by T.J. Rushing.

Michael Sleep-Dalton, 6-foot-2, 207 pounds, averages 42.2 punts this season as a freshman at San Francisco City College and is expected to graduate in the spring with four years to play three seasons at the Division I level. Before arriving in the states, the 23-year-old said he played three years of Australian Rules Football.

Priority Targets

Running Back

Arizona State has one running back committed and will probably only take another prospect if it loses a current commitment or an elite prospect is willing to commit to the program

3-Back/Tight-End

The Sun Devils signed four prospects who could play either tight end or 3-back last year. With no seniors at the position, ASU can be selective and we project it will probably sign no more than two at the position group in 2016 barring unanticipated attrition or position moves.

Wide Receiver

Arizona State has three receiver prospects committed as this time. With two seniors on the roster, and considering the roster is already under ASU's scholarship target at the position in 2015, we expect coaches will feel a need to sign at least three receiver recruits this year.

Offensive Line

Despite signing five prospects last year, ASU is still in the process of rebuilding its depth along the offensive line. We expect the Sun Devils to sign at least four prospects again this year

Defensive Line

With only two seniors on a well stocked roster, ASU can be selective along the defensive line this year. We expect the Sun Devils to sign two or three prospects this year.

Devil backer

Devil backer is a key position in the Sun Devil defensive scheme. The Sun Devils in the last two classes have added quality recruits at the position and will probably take no more than two prospects in this class.

Inside Linebacker

With ASU going three deep at SAM and WILL, we expect it to be especially selective in recruiting this year.

Spur/Bandit Safety

We expect ASU to sign at least two prospects who could play spur or bandit, perhaps three.

Cornerback/Field Safety

The Sun Devils will lose both starting cornerbacks and have had inexperience hurt at field safety and with depth in the secondary in general this season. Anticipating this, ASU has already taken commitments from four prospects and could sign five.
