The Opening: Upshur comfortable with ASU

Four-star tight end Naseir Upshur, a Scout300 member, spoke with SunDevilSource about his close feel for Arizona State and how his recruiting is shaping up currently.

BEAVERTON, Ore. -- Four-star tight end Naseir Upshur was a stand out on Day 1 action of 7v7 play at The Opening, gaining separation from defenders and making several big catches in traffic.

Arizona State got an early start on Upshur, with tight ends coach Chip Long recruiting the 6-foot-1, 239-pounder from the time he was a freshman at Imhotep, in Philadelphia, Pa.

Upshur knows former ASU star wide receiver Jaelen Strong -- a fellow Philly product -- well, and is close friends with ASU defensive back DeAndre Scott.

Having already visited ASU multiple times, Upshur has a lot of first-hand familiarity with the program, and it is solidly in his current Top-5, with an official visit on tap for Sept. 17.

Upshur spoke with about his recruiting process and the Sun Devils.
