Video: Karpman two minute drill (Monday a.m.)

D.J. Calhoun at first-team Devil backer? Armand Perry a possible starter at field-side safety? We examine the possibility of these developments, which were explored in Monday's Arizona State practice, in today's two minute drill.

Arizona State coach Todd Graham has been looking for the right personnel to fill the Devil backer role this season and sophomore linebacker D.J. Calhoun got first-team reps at the position Monday.

It's a new position for Calhoun, but one that might make sense given that junior SAM Salamo Fiso and senior WILL Antonio Longino have played well in camp and seemed to solidify their spots atop the depth chart.

Calhoun's strong play in camp coupled with ASU's challenge at Devil backer created the opportunity for this to be explored.

Elsewhere on the defense, sophomore Armand Perry took first-team reps at the field safety position for the first time Monday even though sophomore James Johnson returned to practice after hurting his shoulder a day earlier.

With ASU concerned about coverage and speed on the back end in the wake of the loss of Damarious Randall to the NFL, Perry might be the best option.
