Graham: 'We're a lot better football team'

Todd Graham continues to be pleased with what he's seem from his Arizona State team in preseason camp. So much so, he said Thursday that ASU is much more capable than it has been in the past.

PAYSON, Ariz. -- Arizona State coach Todd Graham didn't mince words in his post-practice media availability following Thursday's Camp Tontozona practice.

"We're a lot better football team," Graham said. That's just the bottom line. A lot, lot better."

Graham loves the combination of athleticism and physicality of the 2015 iteration of the Sun Devils, as well as the overall approach of the team in the collective.

"We're coaching and we're focusing on an elite mindset and guys are responding well," Graham said.

A number of players were singled out by Graham after the practice, including senior quarterback Mike Bercovici, junior tight end Kody Kohl and sophomore linebacker Christian Sam, who is much improved according to the head coach.

True freshman Joseph Wicker has worked with the first-team at the boundary side end position -- typically called the Devil backer -- even though that's not his longterm future. It just may be the way ASU has the best players in the lineup together this year.

"When JoJo is in there that's our four man, that's what our four (down lineman) will look like," Graham said.
