In recent days, sophomore Armand Perry has moved atop the depth chart at first-team field safety due to his promise as a coverage defensive back. Perry spoke with us about the challenge from Camp Tontozona.
Payson, Ariz. -- Last season, Armand Perry played a role for Arizona State as a true freshman at cornerback and nickel back as a true freshman.
Mid-way through Arizona State's fall camp, it's starting to look as though Perry be a key figure in the Sun Devils' defensive secondary at a different position.
Following the departure of Damarious Randall to the NFL, where he was a first-round pick by the Green Bay Packers, Perry has shifted to Randall's vacated field safety position.
The position is extremely demanding because of how much man free coverage ASU puts the field safety in. Perry has experience at safety, as he played the position in high school. But he knows this is a totally different challenge.
Following Thursday's practice at Camp Tontozona, Perry caught up with us to let us know how the transition is going.
