On signing day in February, Arizona State had no wide receivers as part of an otherwise stellar recruiting class. Five days later, four-star prospect Terrell Chatman signed with ASU and in April the Sun Devils added junior college receiver Tim White and UCLA transfer Devin Lucien to solidify their roster for 2015 and beyond.
The Sun Devils have three senior wide receivers, Lucien, D.J. Foster and Gary Chambers. Missouri City, Texas, athlete Jeremy Smith committed to the program in June. A high school quarterback, Smith reminds of former ASU receiver Michael Jones, who was a quarterback in high school in the Houston area.
With one receiver prospect committed, three seniors on the roster, and considering the ASU is already under its scholarship target at the position by one in 2015, we expect coaches will want to sign at least three receiver recruits this year.
ASU has official visits set with several high profile prospects. Houston receiver Tyrie Cleveland is planning to visit Tempe when the Sun Devils play USC. He is a four-star prospect who Scout.com ranks as the No. 11 wide receiver prospect in the class. He is also a teammate of ASU quarterback commit Dillon Sterling-Cole.
Chander four-star receiver N’Keal Harry is someone the Sun Devils have made a lot of progress with this summer. He is expected to officially visit this fall along with his teammate Chase Lucas who could play receiver or defensive back.
Another four-star receiver who holds ASU in high regard is San Diego Mira Mesa prospect Steffon McKnight. He has the Sun Devils near the top of his list and has plans to officially visit the program this fall.
