Inside linebacker is a position at which Arizona State possesses talent and depth. The program is currently running about four deep with scholarship players who play either the SAM or WILL positions.
Antonio Longino is the only senior on the roster who can play inside, and he very well may often line up at Devil backer. Junior Salamo Fiso has started at the SAM since early on his freshman year. Sophomores D.J. Calhoun and Christian Sam have stood out during preseason camp and have high level potential. The overall depth could lead to ASU not taking an insider linebacker in this class but its coaches are nevertheless recruiting a couple of high-profile JUCO prospects.
The top uncommitted prospect ASU is recruiting is Northeast Oklahoma A&M prospect Chris Baccus. A former high school running back, Baccus projects to the SAM but is athletic enough to play the WILL and shows good pass rush instincts and possibly could be someone they take a look at Devil. Ole Miss verbal David Luafatasaga plays nearby at Arizona Western and told SunDevilSource.com earlier this year he is still considering the Sun Devils. He is one of the most impressive prospects in the country and could play SAM, WILL, Devil and even the Spur. Utah prospect Pookie Maka is the loan high school prospect ASU is recruiting.
