Todd Graham has had a revolving door at the Spur position taking over. In his first three seasons at Arizona State, three different players have started at the position. Junior Laiu Moeakiola took over the position last year, and assuming he can stay healthy, should be the starter through 2016.
The Sun Devils seemingly have good depth at the position but no clear successor to Moeakiola. Sophomore Marcus Ball is the frontrunner to take over in 2017, as he has been given regular work with the starters while Moeakiola has worked back from injury. Fellow sophomores DeAndre Scott and James Johnson have also worked at the position.
With no seniors at the position and multiple options on the roster, the Sun Devils are looking to take probably just one prospect at the position in this class. Three-star recruit D.J. Morgan committed to ASU this summer only to reopen his recruitment recently, with Cal and Notre Dame being possible destinations.
Oklahoma four-star prospect Calvin Bundage has ASU at the top of his list. A physical player, Bundage is an ideal fit for the hybrid safety/linebacker position because of his ability to cover and play at the line of scrimmage. Kevin Moore, a Louisiana prospect, is a three-star prospect who is also very high on the Sun Devils. Both players are planning to take official visits this fall.
