Graham: Ranking a reflection of past success

Arizona State's preseason ranking of No. 15 in the Associated Press poll will have no impact on this season, but is a positive reflection based on how the program has performed in recent years according to Todd Graham.

Regarding Arizona State's preseason No. 15 ranking in the first preseason Associate Press poll, Todd Graham said it matters because it's a reflection of where the team finished a year ago.

"Does it matter? Yes it does," Graham said. "It means you're doing some good things as a program. Does it have an effect on this year? No. It's where you're ranked at the end of the year. We'd like to move up about 14 spots.

"I'm proud of this program and I think we have an incredible product to offer young men who have character, seek integrity, want discipline and want to be successful in life. I think it's a product of your works. You're going to be evaluated on your works."

With special teams improvement being a key emphasis this off-season, Todd Graham said Monday he believes the unit is in good hands with first-year coordinator Shawn Slocum.

Everything won't be fixed overnight, Graham said, "I've learned more about special teams in this camp than I knew, and I think had a decent knowledge of special teams."
