Sun Devils first in with offer to Ashton Logan

Arizona State's been very active in Texas recruiting and got ahead of the curve recently on a defensive standout who is switching positions heading into his senior season.

When Ashton Logan received his first scholarship offer from Arizona State last week, it was unexpected.

Logan, a 6-foot-0, 205 pound hybrid safety-linebacker prospect at Temple High School in Temple, Texas, knew the Sun Devils were recruiting him. He just though there'd be another step or two in that process before an offer.

"I was actually surprised," Logan said. "I had just talked to [current ASU offensive analyst Josh Martin] a couple weeks earlier and he'd told me they were going to come back in the spring for me and watch me then. So I was surprised when they came back later and just said they wanted to offer me a scholarship. I didn't know what to think.

"They said they were just watching my film and they just love the way that I play and didn't want to wait to offer me. So they [became] my first offer."

When dialogue started increasing with ASU in January, Logan began to do his homework. Now he's ready to see the school in person and has a plan in place to do just that.

"I didn't know much about them but I started to do some research," he said." It seems like an exciting place and I'm interested in just going there and seeing it for myself. We actually already scheduled an unofficial visit at the end of May.

"ASU said they like me as an outside linebacker (Spur) and that's what I've recently been moved to a my high school for my senior year. So it's probably playing the same thing that I'll be playing this season."

Arkansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas and TCU are also recruiting Logan, he said.

"I just want to build a relationship with the coaches and see how they use their players," Logan said. "Do they have favorites or how they rotate players to see what they do. I want to see about the academics, how they take care of the players with help in school and all of that."

As a player, Longan enjoys the physical side of the sport and playing closer to the line will help facilitate that.

"I like to hit a lot," he said. "I can also cover man to man. I don't think I gave up a touchdown this year so I think i have pretty good coverage. I can play off man too. But I really love to hit and try to turn the ball over."
