Throughout the recruiting cycle, Arizona State's coaching staff proved it was willing to scour the country to find cornerbacks capable of helping the Sun Devils shore up their pass defense.
On Wednesday, the Sun Devils landed a commitment from one of those players, as two-star cornerback Langston Frederick announced his pledge to ASU.
The 5-foot-10, 174-pound prospect chose ASU over reported scholarship offers from multiple Power 5 conference schools including Michigan State, Iowa State, Minnesota and Missouri as well as Group of Five options that included Houston and Texas San-Antonio.
Fields is the second cornerback to commit to ASU's 2017 recruiting class, joining four-star Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) product and Scout300 recruit Alex Perry.
The Sun Devils return senior Maurice Chandler, senior Chad Adams junior Kareem Orr, junior Armand Perry, sophomore Robbie Robinson and freshman Chase Lucas at the cornerback/field safety positions in 2017, and if Perry and Frederick are the only Signing Day additions at the positions, ASU may look for additional depth via late signings or transfer prospects prior to the start of the regular season.
