Demetrious Flowers

High profile running back recruit Demetrious Flowers likes Arizona State

A state champion running back likes what the Sun Devils have to offer schematically for players at the position under first-year coordinator Billy Napier.

One of the West's top running backs is growing increasingly fond of Arizona State.

Demetrious Flowers, a four-star 2018 recruit at St. John Bosco and the No. 4 recruit at the position in the region, had a very positive visit to Tempe last weekend.

"I loved it, actually," Flowers said upon his return to Southern California. "Just the love I'm feeling from the coaches and the vision of the new facility and where they see themselves for the next couple years with the football program.

"I didn't really get a chance to see the new facility they're building but they showed some slideshows, like a presentation of what it will look like and it was really nice, like you can tell how nice it's going to be. We also went to see the campus, I got to see the student dorms. I was supposed to catch up with (senior running back) Demario Richard but he had class."

Flowers is being recruited by offensive coordinator Billy Napier and running backs coach John Simon for the Sun Devils, and those relations were improved as a result of the trip.

"The new offense they have with Napier coming from Alabama, I really like the sound of that," Flowers said. "The one-two punch of the two running backs and the opportunity to play early (due to two seniors atop the depth chart). That's a pretty good situation."

In addition to the Sun Devils, Flowers has reported an offer from Hawaii, Iowa State and UCLA. Iowa State and Texas have also received an unofficial visit.

"Texas, I loved it," he said. "It's the same as with a lot of colleges, rebuilding, new facilities, a lot of new stuff with the coaching staff. Same with Iowa State."

After seeing what other schools offer a scholarship during the spring evaluation period, Flowers is likely to take some more visits, narrow his list and then make a decision before his senior season gets underway.

"I'm looking for a team that will spread the ball around but is based off the run game, a good ability to run the ball," Flowers said. "I'm really going to be committing before my first game. So probably around the summer time. I'm going to settle down, stick to one school and then basically just ride for that school."

At 6-foot tall and 210 pounds, Flowers is a physical back who was credited with 954 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns on a state championship team last season.

"I'm a north and south runner, I can get downfield," Flowers said. "I don't like to juke around a lot, I like to run through somebody. I model my game after Marshawn Lynch, a lot of new backs actually like Leonard Fournette and Bo Scarbrough."
