Sun Devil Hoops Target Louisiana Native

One of the least talked about high-major prospects on the West Coast in this recruiting cycle has been Lamar Roberson, a 6-7 small forward, who only this year moved out to Los Angeles-area high school Compton Dominguez from Baton Rouge Louisiana. DevilsDigest caught up with Roberson late Wednesday and has the latest on his recruitment.

"My house caught on fire (in Louisiana) and so I moved out here to live with my Aunt and go to school for [for my senior year]," Roberson explains of his cross-country trip and matriculation to Compton Dominguez. "My Mom wanted me to be able to get away and really focus on what I have to do, so that's what I'm doing."

The wing forward now claims to be 6-8 and still growing. "I'm really lifting and my coach is telling my I'm looking bigger. I don't know about bigger, but I definitely feel stronger. I'm just really trying to work on my game and improve - keep improving all the time. If I do that I know things will fall in place."

Roberson jumped up to the No. 3 spot in West Coast rankings due in large part to a good spring and summer on the AAU circuit. A long, athletic forward with a nice skill package, Roberson is now being recruited by a number of high majors, but two schools in particular are doing well in the chase.

"I like Oregon State and Arizona State right now. Really I'm open and I'm listening, but those are two that I'd probably like to learn more about and visit. A lot of other schools have come by the school and I don't even really know all of 'em off the top of my head, but I am open and looking at all my options."

Since he's still relatively early in the process, Roberson says he's likely to wait until the spring period to sign, but that isn't quite etched in stone. He's planning on taking the SAT for the first time in October and has hopes to set up official visits soon thereafter.

DevilsDigest will update Roberson's recruitment as further details become available.
