Rudy Carpenter commits to ASU

According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, QB Rudy Carpenter chose the Sun Devils over the UCLA Bruins.

There have been several reports that would suggest that the Westlake HS signal caller has been Westwood bound for a while. We talked to Rudy's father, and he set the record straight.

"ASU worked the hardest in recruiting Rudy," he said. "I'm disappointed that UCLA didn't recruit Rudy as hard as ASU. If they did, Rudy would be a Bruin already. UCLA said that they were going to give a written offer, and never did. ASU said that the written offer would be at our house on Tuesday (of last week), and that's when it got here." He added that the Sun Devils' recruiting methods exhibited a lot of class and style, and were by far more impressive than the other schools vying for his son's services.

Mr. Carpenter hinted that right now his son was leaning towards the Sun Devils, and that the announcement could come following an in-home visit with Coach Koetter. "I feel that things happen for a reason," Mr. Carpenter said. "ASU has done a great job recruiting him. Nobody said anything bad about Coach Koetter and he's been the most impressive out of all the coaches we talked to. I wouldn't be disappointed at all if Rudy ended up at ASU."

He added that the quarterback did visit BYU this past weekend, but the Cougars aren't a serious player in Carpenter's list of favorites.
