Reno Defensive End is ASU Bound

Lighting struck twice for the Sun Devils at Reno High School. Last year, it was defensive back Josh Barrett who signed with ASU. As reported first on DevilsDigest on Sunday afternoon, Wes Evans has become ASU's first defensive lineman to verbally commit. In this exclusive interview, Evans talked about the reasons, which led him to his decision.

"I had a great visit," he said. "I liked the coaches, the facilities, the weight room…it was real easy to make my decision on Sunday when I was there." Evans was hosted by Lee Burghgraef and Chad Christensen.

Evans mainly played as a defensive tackle, but he also saw time at tight end, where collected 585 yards and five touchdowns in his senior year. He helped lead his school to capture Nevada's 4A championship, scoring on a 66-yard reception in the championship game.

The 6-3 255 Evans talked about his skills: "I'm quick and I have good hands," he stated. "I do need to work on my speed and strength." He said that the Sun Devils are a school that he has been considering for quite a while. "They started contacting me two-three months ago. There were always in my top three along with Fresno State and San Diego State."

ASU fans have been clamoring for defensive linemen signing in the 2004 recruiting class. Evans becomes the first player to fulfill those wishes.
