Smith Pays ASU an Unofficial Visit

DevilsDigest caught up with the offensive lineman following his unofficial trip to the Sun Devils.

"I started out the morning tagging Mike Pollack (his former Corona Del Sol teammate) to his class," Said Allen Smith. "And then I tagged Robert Gustavis. Robert was going to his computer science class, and that's something I'd like to major in."

"I had lunch with Coach Grimes," Smith continued. "And we had a great heart to heart talk about recruiting and other topics. We continued that conversation after lunch in his office."

Smith was one of the attendants in Zach Miller's press conference. What impact, if any, did Miller's commitment to ASU provide? "No real impact," stated Smith. "I respect Zach tremendously as a person and a player. Just like everyone else, I was on the edge of my seat waiting for his announcement. I know him as an opponent, and I rather be on his team than face him. But he didn't bring me closer to a decision."

The lineman mentions some factors that have held him back in his decision process. "I have a lot of community commitments and I'm playing basketball," Smith remarked. "So, I'm not as close to a decision as I'd like to be. I'm trying as hard as I can to not prolong this. I still have five schools on my list. I will narrow down my list to three after my visit to Tennessee (1/23). Next week I'll have my unofficial visit to Notre Dame, and that will be my last visit."

Smith added that he try to announce his decision by the end of this month, rather than the first week in February.
